CONCORD, NH — A man from Rochester was arrested on multiple charges after being accused of driving his motorcycle into a Northwood police officer.
Around 10:15 a.m., Strafford police attempted to stop a motorcyclist driving recklessly. The rider crossed into Northwood and drove toward Route 4, which was closed due to the conclusion of the Memorial Day parade. Strafford police terminated their chase of the motorcyclist and last saw the rider turning onto Route 4, Amber Lagace, a public information officer for the state police, said.
"While Northwood police officers remained along Route 4, in position for the safety of the parade, one Northwood officer was able to hear the motorcycle accelerating toward them," she said. "In response, the officer stepped into the westbound lane of travel, in an effort to signal for the motorcycle operator to stop. Rather than yielding, the motorcycle continued ahead and collided with the Northwood officer. The officer was knocked to the ground and the motorcycle came to a rest on its side."
The officer was taken to Concord Hospital for treatment. He was listed in stable condition, Lagace said.
Northwood police requested state police to assist, and the collision analysis and reconstruction unit was sent to investigate the incident.
"A portion of the westbound travel lane remained closed for several hours while the scene was processed by investigators," she added.
Logan Goodwin, 21, the rider, sustained minor abrasions and was cleared. He was arrested by Strafford police for felony reckless conduct and disobeying an officer charges and an operating without a motorcycle license violation. He was also charged by Northwood police with second-degree assault and reckless conduct, both felonies. Goodwin was held without bail and scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
"All aspects of this case remain under investigation," Lagace said.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has any information regarding any of these events, contact Sergeant Brian Ross at [email protected] or 603-931-2738.
Along with Northwood police and fire and rescue teams, Strafford police assisted with the investigation.
