A woman in a wheelchair was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Fairmount Park and killed.

FAIRMOUNT PARK - Philadelphia police are looking for answers after a wheelchair-bound victim was struck and killed by a vehicle they say left her for dead.

The woman, later identified by police as Sharell Holliday, was found on the 2200 block of Reservoir Drive around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

She suffered fatal injuries to her head and body after being thrown by a fleeing vehicle.

Police say the woman was in a wheelchair, which was found shattered to pieces nearby.

Philadelphia police are looking for answers after a woman was struck and killed by a vehicle they say left her for dead.

Several broken car parts were also found near her body.

A description of the striking vehicle is unknown at this time, but police say they are surveying area cameras for evidence.

According to the Philadelphia Police Department, prior to the pandemic, going back to 2016, there were 629 hit-and-runs, with 17 being fatal.

In 2020, that number of hit-and-runs jumped to 858, with 29 being fatal.

At this time in 2023, the number was 588, with 36 fatalities.

And, so far in 2024, there have been 473 hit-and-runs, with 26 being fatal.
